The Office of Student Services (OSS) in the College of Education serves as the central office of support for undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty and staff.  Services provided include but are not limited to advising for prospective and current students, degree completion, registration troubleshooting, professional and career development, and helping to connect students to resources.

The College of Education has an outstanding opportunity for a Graduate Admission & Outreach Advisor.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Graduate Student Services, the Graduate Admission & Outreach Advisor works as a member of the Office of Student Services team to provide an extensive and broad-reaching system of support to prospective students, applicants, faculty, and staff.

The Graduate Admission & Outreach Advisor will serve as the initial point of contact for many of the colleges prospective M.E.d. & doctoral students. Operating in a primarily remote capacity, an important function of the position is to enhance the experience of prospective graduate students, with an emphasis on increasing recruitment of high-caliber graduate students, including students of color, international students, and other student populations that are underrepresented in the pursuit of graduate studies.


Advising Prospective Graduate Students & Applicants - Essential functions of the position include:
Understanding and conveying information about multiple graduate programs and relevant University policies to prospective students and applicants to M.Ed. and doctoral programs
Interpreting the interests of prospective students and determining the congruence of those interests with the colleges graduate programs and faculty research agendas
Assisting prospective graduate students to navigate the appropriate application processes and admission requirements

Admissions Outreach - Essential functions of the position include:
Cultivating contacts with prospective graduate students and recruiting for MEd and doctoral programs, including responses to programmatic questions from prospective graduate students
Presenting  graduate program information sessions for prospective students, attending recruitment fairs, and maintaining organizational partnerships related to outreach
Collaborating with College marketing and communications staff in the development of graduate recruitment materials

Graduate Student Services - Essential functions of the position include:
Supporting the Assistant Director in the preparation of complex comprehensive recruitment & retention plans, summaries, recommendations, progress or special reports
Supporting the Assistant Director in conducting research and analyzing department, college-wide, and national data related to graduate admission, advising and student success to assist in identifying service opportunities within the college
Other duties as assigned.

Bachelors degree in education, social sciences, or a related field, to include 3 years of experience working with students in an advisory, recruiting, or counseling capacity.
Ability to work effectively in a primarily remote capacity and be present on campus, as needed, for advising, info sessions, and other relevant meetings.
Knowledge of effective recruiting and retention practices to increase diversity, as well as the ability to develop and implement new initiatives in this area.
Demonstrated ability to use relational databases, web-based technologies, and an ability to integrate these technologies into educational and student-support environments.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.

Additional Qualifications:
Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills, including experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), Google Suite, relational databases, multi-user calendaring systems, online communications (email and instant messaging).
Experience and proficiency using ZOOM, Microsoft Teams, and other web-based technologies.

Desired Background:
Masters degree highly preferred
Knowledge of the field of education as a discipline of study
Knowledge of student development theories and their applications in student services work
Familiarity with policies and procedures of the University of Washington and/or the UW College of Education.
Graduate degree in education or a related field of study.
Experience in academic advising, recruiting, and/or admissions.
Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment.
Sensitivity and ability to handle highly confidential information.
